I regi af Playful Learning Research Extension (2019-2023), et forskningsprojekt, som udforsker og undersøger legende tilgange til undervisning på pædagog- og læreruddannelsen, undersøger vi legende tilgange til læring på forskellige måder. Én af dem er netop med blik for rum og materialers betydning, da vi mener at læring, det legende og materialitet er dybt forbundet (Jørgensen, Schrøder & Skovbjerg, 2021). 

Denne artikel handler om undersøgelsen – og litteraturstudiet af, hvilken forskningsbaseret viden der er skabt i forhold til, hvordan det rumlige og det materielle tager del i processer med legende tilgange til læring i videregående uddannelse. Baggrunden for litteraturstudiet er at skabe et godt afsæt for, hvordan vi kan udvikle ny viden om rum og materialitets betydning for legende tilgange på pædagog- og læreruddannelsen.

Space and materiality – an unexplored field

It is difficult to imagine learning and play without any kind of materials. No matter whether physical surroundings or all kinds of different materials, they are both involved when playing and learning. Play is the challenge of course. Learning is ‘naturally’ present in higher education, whereas play or playful learning requires some explanation.

We examine playful approaches to learning through various methods under the auspices of Playful Learning Research Extension (2019-2023), a research project that explores and examines playful approaches to teaching in Social Education and Teacher Education. One of these methods is linked to the importance of space and materials, as we believe that learning, playful learning and materiality are deeply connected (Jørgensen, Schrøder & Skovbjerg, 2021).

This article deals with our investigation and literature review of the research-based knowledge that has been generated in relation to how the spatial and the material take part in playful learning processes in higher education. The background for the literature review is to create a good starting point for how we can develop new knowledge about the importance of space and materiality for playful learning in Social Education and Teacher Education.
